What's The Novel About?
Story Overview
Macie Long has spent years on the Killer Hornets’ standby team, scraping by while waiting for a real shot. But when her chance finally arrives, it comes with a devastating physical injury. One that threatens to end her career before it ever truly begins.
At nearly the age-limit cutoff for professional Ricochet (the fastest-growing racquet sport in America) Macie has one year to rise to the top or disappear from the game forever. Her dream isn’t survival. It’s immortality: to become the greatest Ricochet player of all time.
But the obstacles aren’t just physical.
Macie faces a corrupt league culture, a disengaged teenage son, an alcoholic father who blames her for her mother’s death, and a new romantic relationship with a man who doesn’t understand sports.
Much less, the cost of obsession.
As the clock ticks, Macie is forced into impossible choices: rewriting her entire playing style to compensate for injury, considering an offer from the Hornets’ most hated rival, and possibly reuniting with a former coach whose betrayal once shattered her life.
To win now, Macie must dismantle the very mindset that earned her Olympic gold long ago.
She must risk discovering that greatness may demand something other than sacrifice at all costs.

How This Fits Into FaulknerFiction.
👉 While each FaulknerFiction novel stands alone, 'Ricochet' is the most physically embodied—exploring ambition, identity, and morality through the limits of the human body rather than ideology or technology.
👉 Where other novels confront systems of power, technological risk, or political control, 'Ricochet' turns inward, examining how excellence corrodes the self, and whether true greatness requires unlearning everything that once led to success.
